Friday is the last day of week and public holiday in Iran

Friday is the last day of the week and official holiday all over the country. Weekends in Tehran are two days, and many governmental offices and companies are closed on Thursday.
The country's calendar of holidays is not limited to this, and some religious, revolutionary and ritual events, which counts to 26 days, are added to the holiday.
These holidays include:

  • March 21st-24th: Nowruz Celebration
  • April 2nd: Sizdah Bedar or Nature's Day
  • March 29th - Nationalization of the oil industry
  • Revolutionary occasions
  • April 12 - Islamic Republic Day
  • June 14th - Ayatollah Khomeini died
  • June 15th - The anniversary of the June 15 uprising
  • Feb. 22 - Anniversary of the victory of the revolution
  • Religious occasions according to lunar calendar:
  • 9 Muharram - Tasooa
  • 10 Muharram - Ashura
  • 20 Safar - Arbaeen
  • 28 Safar - Death of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and martyrdom of Imam Hassan Mojtaba (AS)
  • End of Safar (29 or 30) - Martyrdom of Imam Reza (AS)
  • 1 Rabi'Al-Awwal - Martyrdom of Imam Hasan Askari (AS)
  • 17 Rabi'Al-Awwal - The birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the birth of Imam Ja'far Sadiq (as)
  • 3 Jomadi al-Thani - Martyrdom of Hazrat Fatemeh Al Zahra (PBUH)
  • 13 Rajab - Birth of Imam Ali (AS)
  • 27 Rajab - The Day of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
  • 15 Sha'ban - Birth of Imam Hassan (AS)
  • 21 Ramadan - Martyrdom of Imam Ali (AS)
  • 1 Shawwal - Eid Sa'id Fetr
  • 2 Shawwal - On the occasion of Eid al-Fitr
  • 25 Shawwal - Martyrdom of Imam Ja'far Sadiq (as)
  • 10 Dhihajah - Eid Sa'id Qurban
  • 18 Dhihjah - Eid Ghadir Khom

Schools and universities are also closed in the three months of the summer (June 22nd- September 22nd) and the first 13 days of the year (March 21st - April 2nd), which is why many people postpone their annual trips to this time, especially because of the good weather in the spring for the first two weeks of the year. Hence, many private and public organizations are half-closed at this time.
