Tabas City Description

Tabas(Tis), a deserted city in west of South Khorasan province

Tabas is a desert city in west part of South Khorasan province. It is located between Dasht-e Kavir and Lut deserts.

The city is hot in summer, however, it gets cool at nights. This city has lots of date and citrus trees which has turned the city into a heaven in the middle of desert. Tabas and the surrounding area are known for the abundance of mines as the region is very rich in minerals especially coal. 

A destructive earthquake measured between 7.5 and 7.9 on the Richter scale happend in Tabas on September 16, 1978. Since then, the city was rebuilt. In spite the destruction, Tabas has its own thriving state and aesthetic features. The scenery beauty of desert, rural areas with historical background and beautiful fragrant gardens of the area attracts tourists.

Heaven of desert, pearl of Iran cities, capital of Irans mines, bride of desert, California of Iran, are the names given to Tabas by popular people and explorers like Naser Khosrow, Sven Hedin, Jalal Al-e Ahmad, and ... .
